How timely your article this morning is for me. I am moving after many years from a small apartment into a 2 story, 3 bedroom home with decks and gardens galore. Naturally I want to put each piece of mine in the perfect place and be done! You’ve reminded me of the joy that awaits with the revealing process of letting go and allowing it to show me what is possible. Lying in bed mentally sketching out rugs, curtains, and furniture placement until I am exhausted and confused as to what I want has created a monster.
Tomorrow the movers come- and a whole new life will blossom from brown boxes and wrapping material. I am excited to see what evolves.
Lesley, Another wonderful read. "How long did it take me to realize that the work tells me what it wants or needs but I was too in a hurry to listen?" Yep. Been there!
Hi Lesley, thank you for another thought-provoking read! You led me down a rabbit hole, revisiting several works that I had previously enjoyed. (Fyi, they were Joy Harjo’s poem about the meaningfulness of a kitchen table (Perhaps the World Ends Here, https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/49622/perhaps-the-world-ends-here); Kitchen Table Wisdom (1996), a book of insightful stories by Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.; and Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi’s book Flow (2008). His work supports your insight that “everything you do supports all that you do”. Thanks for the fun! 😊
What a wonderful poem! Kitchen table's are often the center of our lives. This house is the first time I've actually had a kitchen table. Perhaps that is why it is so special to me. I've read Flow, so subconsciously I already know what is now new again for me.
Parallel universe, I swear. My mornings are a sacred ritual as well. While the banana I save for lunch with cottage cheese, the only word game I play is Wordle, which I challenge myself to solve in 90 seconds or less. 6:20 is when my body nudges me to consciousness. And today I sent my sixth child off to her first day of high school. She looked so “ready” in her crisp polo uniform top, while I sat at my round table, looking out the window, contemplating the commitments to nurturing myself that I long for, and am on the cusp of exploring. The clock is ticking. Thanks for your writing.
Too, weird, right? I remember the day I sent my 6th off to high school. We truly do have much in common. Those years were great, watching her blossom. She's getting married in October! I hope your daughter has a wonderful high school experience.

Thank you for your gift of communication.
How exciting to be moving and planning a new home. I had so much fun when we moved 9 years ago. Thanks for reading and sharing your exciting move.

Lesley, I loved being present to your morning routine - a sacred space and time. It all resonated so deeply with me.
I'm glad it felt like you were. That was my intention. To more blessed mornings!
Oh, yes!!!!
