My own Substack is named She Flew. Fear has been a constant in my life. But somehow at times, through my own faith, Iāve been able to transcend the fear and do the things I have always been drawn to. Traveling to Morocco, riding a camel in the desert.
Thank you Lesley for this thought provoking post. Being A bird lover, watching them daily and wishing I could soar with them has often pushed me to try new things. Watching a mother bird with her fledglings you see how intimidating it is even if you are born with wings. Often they plummet to the leaves on the forest floor. But they succeed. We all can move towards the edge and leap. We instinctively know if the time is right.ā„ļø
A fun read - thank you! Peter Pan and I are old friends. Some serendipity: Iāve been watching the livestream of the eaglesā nest at Big Bear (CA). The eaglets are doing lots of wing stretches and flapping as they train to fly! š
No, she found Wendy cited as a nickname for Winifred (my given name) in the newspaper. Not surprisingly, I developed a strong affinity for Peter Pan in childhood. (Still wish I could fly. . . )
Lesley, Iām flying today! To Hawaii! Yes, and I plan to research offering an art workshop there! Sending you powerful wings. Mine are ready.šš©š»āšØ

The quote that inspired me was this:
Come to the edge
He said. They said.
We are afraid.
Come to the edge
He said.
They came to the edge.
He pushed them.
And they flew.

A teacher read that to us years ago. I wish I could remember who and why.
Super interesting as always! And, loved hearing the story behind that very striking logo.
Thanks, Sue.

So true, Susie. Even birds have trouble trusting their wings. Once they get the hang of it the sky is literally the limit.
Interesting post connecting an Eastern European folk tale with a Tom Petty lyric. Thatās an artistic mind at work!
I love making connections.

Thanks, Wendy. Did your mom name you Wendy because of Peter Pan? š

I can relate. Belief is the cornerstone of everything I do. To believe it is to make it so.
